An Update from Baba Silka in Vratsa

Since 2013, Corawill has been helping Tabitha Foundation in Bulgaria with their programs serving children in social institutions in Vratsa. One of these involves assisting a "Baba" (a retired grandmother) who cares for special needs children, giving them the extra attention they need to live fuller, happier, healthier lives.

Here is a recent update from Baba Silka who Corawill supports in Vratsa. We are so very grateful for the loving care she extends to Ivan and Antonia!

From Baba Silka:

"In the last couple of years, I have been taking care of two severely disabled children - Antonia Hristova and Ivan Toshkov. They are enjoying our time together and feel happy every day when I come to the social home. When they meet me, they are overjoyed and in their own special way they express their love by laughing and shouting. When they see me coming into the social home their faces lit up! Antonia is a very emotional girl and expresses her joy with an over-excited behavior (screaming and making exclamations). Once a bedridden child now she has become livelier and more independent person. Antonia gets herself into a sitting position, keeps moving her head and hands, and

thus she is able to participate in all activities, organized at the center.

The children attend some classes for their special educational needs and show interest and get involved in many activities. Ivan and Antonia look forward to their inclusion in the activities related to their everyday life.

Ivan extends his hands to grab things and is already helping in getting dressed. Antonia stays on her knees for a long time, stands up by herself and goes to bed alone. This may seem like a tiny; advancement but in fact they both have made a great progress.

In general, the children are healthy. In the summer we made open-air and sunny therapies which strengthened their immune systems so now they are rarely sick. They both enjoy good music and feel in a good mood when we are together.   Ivan is always smiling, while Antonia often changes her mood - she cries, she laughs, but in general the children feel happy with me.

I accompany the children to the "Day Care Center for support of children with severe multiple disabilities" in Vratsa, where specialists work with them for their special problems. This has a positive influence on the children. In the last 2-3 years Tabitha Bulgaria Foundation has provided a physiotherapist for them who works with them 2-3 times per week and one can feel an improvement in their agility.

I hope that the children are healthy, as well as the people who work with them, and with my support we will be able to make their daily life more comfortable and happy.
